Advances of Superlubricity

چکیده
Superlubricity, as a new and an important area in tribology, has attracted more and more attentions from researchers over the world. In recent years, some new phenomena, new materials, and new mechanism both in liquid and solid superlubricity have been obtained. In the liquid area, a new system of superlubricity liquids has been found and the new mechanism has been proposed, which exhibits very good characteristics of superlubricity under the higher pressure. In solid area, more materials in superlubricity have been observed both by experiment and the molecular dynamics simulation (MDS), such as grapheme to grapheme surfaces, highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) to grapheme etc. Mechanism for different tribo-systems has been discussed.

Superlubricity of graphene nanoribbons on gold surfaces.
The state of vanishing friction known as superlubricity has important applications for energy saving and increasing the lifetime of devices. Superlubricity, as detected with atomic force microscopy, appears when sliding large graphite flakes or gold nanoclusters across surfaces, for example. However, the origin of the behavior is poorly understood because of the lack of a controllable nanoconta...
متن کاملEffect of temperature and velocity on superlubricity
We study the effects of temperature and sliding velocity on superlubricity in numerical simulations of the Frenkel-Kontorova model. We show that resonant excitations of the phonons in an incommensurate sliding body lead to an effective friction and to thermal equilibrium with energy distributed over the internal degrees of freedom. For finite temperature, the effective friction can be described...
متن کاملGreen superlubricity of Nitinol 60 alloy against steel in presence of castor oil
In the present work, first, we show that sliding Nitinol 60 alloy against steel under castor oil lubrication exhibits a new case of superlubricity (coefficient of friction CoF ≪ 0.01). So far, CoF below 0.01 have never been achieved under boundary lubrication at high contact pressure and in presence of vegetable oil as a green lubricant. Next, it is demonstrated that superlubricity is controlle...
متن کاملSuperlubricity of Graphite Induced by Multiple Transferred Graphene Nanoflakes
2D or 3D layered materials, such as graphene, graphite, and molybdenum disulfide, usually exhibit superlubricity properties when sliding occurs between the incommensurate interface lattices. This study reports the superlubricity between graphite and silica under ambient conditions, induced by the formation of multiple transferred graphene nanoflakes on the asperities of silica surfaces after th...
متن کاملThe high-speed sliding friction of graphene and novel routes to persistent superlubricity
Recent experiments on microscopic graphite mesas demonstrate reproducible high-speed microscale superlubricity, even under ambient conditions. Here, we explore the same phenomenon on the nanoscale, by studying a graphene flake sliding on a graphite substrate, using molecular dynamics. We show that superlubricity is punctuated by high-friction transients as the flake rotates through successive c...
